About Peter C. Winkler, CSW
Expertise
I have experience with adoption subsidy, the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children and variety of other adoption related matters. I hope that I can be helpful to those who are considering adoption or would like to adopt a child.

Experience
I am a social worker with an MSW and I have over thirty years of experience in family and children's services. I have worked as Director of adoption services and of the Interstate Compact in a large state agency. I have also provided direct services to children and families in a preventive services program. I currently prepare adoption studies for those who are adopting domestically or internationally.

Subject: collecting adoption subsidy

Question
who or where can i report it if my X adopted mother is collecting sipends even when another family has splc custody of me after the fact and she is still collecting adoption money even though i wasnt there for 4-5 years can i sue for the back money she was collecting and if so who do i contact

Answer
Dear Justin-
The law and practice concerning adoption subsidy are subject to interpretation.  It is possible that your adoptive mother is still allowed to keep the subsidy even if you haven't lived with her.  However, you still certainly can report that you are no longer living in the home.  The people you need to contact are the state where you were adopted or the county.  These things vary from state to state and you want to be in contact with the agency that handled your adoption placement.  It will then be up to them to look into the matter.  As far as your being entitled to sue for some of the money, etc., you would have to speak to a lawyer, but I never heard of it happening.
