Question hello i have a 17 year old step daughter i have raised her since she was 2 years her father has never been in her life but he is on the birth certificate she is going to graduate from high school and she wants my last name but she does not want to find him what can we do we are in Florida
Answer Hi, thanks for your note. It's my understanding that since your step daughter is still a minor, you'd need permission from the biological father. However, after she turns 18, you may not need permission.
Check with a lawyer in your county experienced in family law. He/she will be able to assist you further.
