Question
I live in California, i want to know what i have to do to have my boyfriend adopt my daughter.  The biological father is not on the birth certificate and has commited suicide.  Was never in the picture.  Please help.  What forms do i need to get and where do i get the papers.  what is the cost as well. please help ASAP

Answer
Hi Samantha-
You need a lawyer to adopt a child in most states.  Courts usually expect you to be married before they will approve an adoption.  If your boyfriend will marry you, you should talk to local lawyers who do adoption work.  They can tell you exactly what is needed and the approximate cost.
