Question
My sister lives in Arkansas and me and my husband and boys live in Kansas.  My sister knows a women that is pregnant and the biological father abandoned her when he found out she was pregnant.  She wants to let me and my husband adopt her baby when it is born.  She can not financially afford to keep the baby.  Do we have to have a home study and do we get a lawyer in Kansas or Arkansas?

Answer
Yes you must have a homestudy done and approved prior to this child being born you will also need a lawyer in both states. You may also need a adoption agency in her state that depends on state laws for both states. You will need interstate adoption approval which your homestudy agency and lawyer can handle for you. As well as signed permission for the birthfather to allow his child to be adopted or if he cannot be found then have your lawyer do whatever is legal for that according to laws. Best wishes when is her baby due? Take care
Terrie
