Experience My husband and I have been foster carers for over five years and we are currently long term carers for two boys. We have had one boy from the age of 9 to 14 years who is with us long term. We have done short term respite care, one year seeing a sixteen year old girl through to leaving care and long term care of another boy from age 10-11

Question my step son who i took care of sence he was a baby got taken to a foster home and after that his real dad took him and now hes 14 and he wants to come live with me but his dad wont let him is he old enough to make his own choices and can i go to court about this or what can i do
Answer I think it would be difficult as the dad has parental responsibility for your stepson and therefore rights to look after him. If your stepson were in foster care then yes you could apply to look after him. I suggest you contact your local Children's Services department for advice.
