Question
My daughter has been living with my mother her whole life. She is 11 years old and my mom wants to retire and she has guardianship, but needs to adopt so she can get beneifts for daughter. My daughter father is not in her life at all. My question is once I sign the papers can I change my mind before we go to court. I don't have a problem with letting her adopt my daughter, I just wanted to make sure if I could have something drawn up , that if something happens to my mom before she is 13 my daughter would come back to me. I appreciate and advice you have on this issue. Thanks

Answer
If you sign papers for the adoption then your no longer the legal parent. Your mom might be able to name you legal guardian in case of her death or an illness but that is for a lawyer to figure out. Ask a lawyer also your daughters father has rights to and needs to also sign papers for an adoption, Best wishes
