About Jodi
Expertise
I myself am adopted. My parents and biological mother fought in court for over 5 years to gain custody. My case was the first national recognized case by the US surpreme court. I can help you find a family for your child and answer questions about your different adoption options (as there are many different types of adoptions). I can give biological fathers advice and references to help them gain custody of their child, should the mother chose to put it up for adoption. I can also give you advice as how to find your bioligical family and the best ways to reunite with them.

Experience
I was adopted as in infant, only the papers werent signed right away by the judge, thus throwing my family into a court battle for over five years. My case "wrote" the book and is referd to in many of todays legal battles in court over adoptions. Luckily for me mine had a sweet ending and the judge finnaly signed the papers five years to my birthdate. I have helped several young girls place their babies up for adoption. (i am a youth crisis intervention counsler). I also helped my brother fight to adopt his son, after the mother had placed him up for adoption. Unfortuntely, we lost that one.

Question
Jodi,

I am helping my fiance try to locate her birth father.  I recently discovered that the state she was adopted in, Kansas, is an "open" state and as such we recently got hold of her adoption papers.  We now know her name at birth, birth date, and parents first and last names.  What we can't get is her original birth certificate which would include her parents full names since Colorado, where she was born, is a "sealed" state.  Do you have any ideas as to how we might find out her parents full names, etc... without using a private investigator?  I have contacted one who says he will provide her father's full name, current address and phone number for $95 provided we can provide her birth name and parents first and last names.  Renee doesn't want to use the registry sites because she wants to be in "control" of the search and isn't sure whether or not she wants to initiate contact at this point.. she just wants full names and as much as she can find out right now...

Thanks

Answer
Sounds like you need to find an agency or person (normaly an adoption advocate) who is willing to be a middle man. No matter how it is done, unless its done on your own, there will be some sort of fee.
$95 is alittle steep, from the different groups I have worked with.
Alot of this can acutaly be done on your own, and then find a third party or adoption advocate to make the contact for you.
If you tell me exactly what kind of information you have, I can atleast tell you where to start looking.
