Question
We live in Ohio and I learned yesterday we The Putative Father Registry. I am pretty sure we don't need to worry about either of these men getting their names in the registry.  But now I'm worried about my daughter, I think she is playing games.  She said if I knew of a good couple to adopt she promised to sign, but the couple have tried to reach her 3 times and she does not answer or return calls.  You see she is on SSI and received 2 checks on for her and that is suppose to be for the 2 children my husband and I are raising. We have never tried to take those checks from her.  She wants me to come and take custody of the new child and I think she has no intention of cooperating with an adoption, she believes I will keep this child the same as the rest and she will continue to receive the money. I believe our attorney is on a holiday break, but I am going to contact him and see what we should do.  I really appreciate your quick response.

-----Question-----
I have custody of 2 of my grandchildren.  We have had custody of the oldest for about 7 years and her younger sister almost 5 years.  Their mother is about to give birth again and wants me take the baby from the hospital. I agreed, as she is not able to care for the child. My daughter is not married and there are 2 men as possible fathers.  Both men are drug addicts, as is my daughter.  The one she lives with more than likely will be going to prison for several years after a court date this February. I know a couple that have been married for 12 years and have tried unsuccessful to have a child. They are interested in seeking adoption. My daughter said she would sign papers to allow this adoption, but I'm not sure about the men.  If we take custody of this child, do we have any chance of promoting a successful adoption of the child to the above mentioned parents?  We don't have much time. My daughter says she is due February 4, 2007, but she thinks she may go mid January 07.
-----Answer-----
You need a good lawyer for family and adoption laws birth fathers have alot of rights what exactly those are depends on the state she and the potentail fathers live in. What state are they in?
Best wishes

Answer
You are Most welcome. If she will not cooperate with an adoption would she do a legal guardianship? That might be possible? We have legal guardianship of our youngest son and even though that has its draw backs it does give him a home and keeps him out of the foster system. For us it has worked out Ok not sure of your state laws concerning that arrangment are you the gaurdians of your grandchildren?
Take care email me at Terrie37@aol.com
Best wishes
