About Abi Expertise I can answer questions on the emotional side of being an adoptee and on searching for adopted persons & birth parents.
Experience I was adopted from birth myself, and have found my own birth parents (both in UK and Spain) having had very little information to go on. I have also had a lot of experience researching information for others.

Question Hello, I've been searching for my bmom for 3+yrs now. I will be searching next through a confidential intermediary. I am told that if the intermediary is unsuccessful, I can petition the court myself, to release my information if I have a "good enough" reason. My question is, what is "good enough"? I don't have any pressing medical issues, and am curious as to some examples people have used to open sealed files in the past. Thank you for your consideration...Mis-c
Answer Hi,
In the UK where I am based, it is usual to have a third party intermediary get access to your records, but this intermediary is free as they would be eg a social worker who works for the government.
Here, it is enough to say that you are over 18 and are searching for your birth parents. After all, the records held about you should in theory be seen by no one else other than you and other concerned parties.
If you wanted to have a 'good reason', tell them you would like to know whether there is any medical history in your family.
I wish you luck,
