I have worked as Director of adoption services and of the Interstate Compact in a large state agency. I have also provided direct services to children and families in a preventive services program. I currently prepare adoption studies for those who are adopting domestically or internationally.
Question I would like to adopt a child from Asia,India or Middle East.I went to Egypt but I could not find a way to adopt because I am a single woman.
How can I start?
Answer Dear Danielle-
I think that you should start off by consulting and probably working with, an adoption agency here in the US that places children from one of the countries you would be interested in. I suggest that you contact jcics.org to request the names of such agencies. Unfortunately, it generally is more difficult for a single person to adopt as opposed to a married couple. However, some countries are more welcoming of singles than others.
If you use an agency here in the US they will help you find a child eligible to be adopted and they will also help with the process of obtaining a visa to bring the child back home.
Good luck!
