AboutColleen Expertise I can answer questions about the adoption process. I don't handle questions about searches for adoptive parents.
Experience I have three adopted children. The two youngest were adopted as infants. In both cases, we dealt with the birthmother during her pregnancy and a bit afterwards. Our children are now old enough to begin asking questions and we are dealing with those issues.
Expert: Colleen Date: 4/27/2007 Subject: how can i adopt my sisters baby
Question my sister had a baby last year and she is failing to look after it.I am a UK citizen and my sister is studying in Ireland it has been difficult work and study at the same time.she has seperated from her husband and is planning to have the baby adopted in Africa. My sister is suffering from a severe depression and sending the baby to Africa will not help as they might not be able to cater for her needs. How can i adopt the baby from Ireland. Will there be any implications as the baby is not Irish.
Answer I'm sorry, I wish I could help with this, but I am totally unfamiliar with Irish laws on adoption. I would suggest you try to convince your sister to let you take the child, which may help her depression. Also, you should contact your local courts, or a lawyer to find out what you can do legally for this child.
