About Colleen
Expertise
I can answer questions about the adoption process. I don't handle questions about searches for adoptive parents.

Experience
I have three adopted children. The two youngest were adopted as infants. In both cases, we dealt with the birthmother during her pregnancy and a bit afterwards. Our children are now old enough to begin asking questions and we are dealing with those issues.

Question
i'm 18 and in the army. my brother is 15 and lives with my father. under what circumstances (and if i can) may i adopt my brother? ( we have the same parents)

Answer
Hi Melissa:  You don't mention why you want to adopt your brother.  I can't think of a legal reason why you would want to, but as far as if you can or not it would depend on the adoption laws in your state.  Every state has different laws.  You may want to try contacting an attorney in your area to see if he or she can help you with this.
