Experience I am a social worker with an MSW and I have over thirty years of experience in family and children's services. I have worked as Director of adoption services and of the Interstate Compact in a large state agency. I have also provided direct services to children and families in a preventive services program. I currently prepare adoption studies for those who are adopting domestically or internationally.
Answer Hi Joe-
As you know, adoption records in NYS are sealed and you don't have access to identifying information unless both of your birthparents filed with the Adoption Information registry. Apparently, they did not. Your only recourse now is to get in contact with adoption search groups to find out how to seek this information "outside the system" or to hire someone to do it for you. You can find some adoption search groups through the Internet. I know that Joe Soll from NYC does this. Try to find him or other groups or individuals on the Internet.
