AboutColleen Expertise I can answer questions about the adoption process. I don't handle questions about searches for adoptive parents.
Experience I have three adopted children. The two youngest were adopted as infants. In both cases, we dealt with the birthmother during her pregnancy and a bit afterwards. Our children are now old enough to begin asking questions and we are dealing with those issues.
Question I'm 16 years old and don't get along with my parents very well. i really don't like living at home and would like to move in with my cousin in Georgia. the only way that i could do that is if he adopted me so that i could get put onto his car insurance and his medical insurance. he is 23 and an Iraqi freedom veteran. i currently live with my parents in Montana. is it possible for him to adopt me and how much will it cost to do so?
Answer You would need to consult an attorney to see about an adoption. I really don't think the courts would approve the adoption of a 16 year old by a 23 year old. However, that would be something an attorney could tell you about.
It would be better to try to work out things with your parents. They would have to approve an adoption anyway. Try talking to your counsellor at school to see if you can work things out with your parents. I really don't think being adoption by someone else is the solution to your problems with your parents.
