Subject: temporary custody?

Question
Hello,

I was just contacted by my daughter whom I gave up for adoption 17 years ago. She is pregnant, and her mom/gaurdian will not allow her to get a social security card or help her obtain her birth certificate so she can gain employment and raise her baby. They live in Hawaii in a tent! She is not bieng provided with any prenatal care. She wants to know if I can gain temporary custody of her and help her get the care she needs. I live in Indiana. The "mom" has no legal gaurdianship, but has taken care of her for 17 years. The bio father had legal custody but went to prison when she was 6 and has been out of the picture since. Any advice?

Answer
Your daughter just need to go to the department of vital statistics or write the state she was born in to get a copy of her birth certificate and then contact the social security department stating she lost her card and needs a new one she also needs to go Right now to the local department of health and social services for free medical and free assistance. She can also turn her guardian in for not caring for her properly whom did you give permission to adopt your child if not this woman? Did you and the father sign papers giving up all parental rights? If you gave up your parental rights and the court approved it and terminated your rights they will not let you have any legal rights to this young woman you need to talk to a lawyer this could be a costly thing to do. Look into legal aid best wishes let me know what happens.
