Adult Film - Which state to start a llc. ?

Expert: Dan Pepper - 11/9/2008

Question
We are almost ready to start casting for our first adult film. I live in one state but I plan on traveling to Cali to record our feature. Being that I don't live in Cali, would it be a bad idea to start the llc in Cali? I was thinking of a state with a low franchise tax such a Wyoming ($50.)

How can I make sure I stay legal if I recruit talent from another state such as NY or TX?

Thanks in advance

Answer
Regarding the NV vs CA LLC, I would need to know more about where you'll concentrate your operations, since you may end up losing the tax benefit of registered in NV if you have significant operations in another state (which it looks like you will).  Also, if anonymity is important to you, NV or WY can help you achieve that.

The recruitment question is a bit more complex, since you're now potentially flirting with solicitation issues in NY or TX.  I cannot give legal advice on this board, so if you'd like to discuss this in more detail, contact me through www.adultwebsitelawyer.com.
