Question
Hi Jim, two questions-
1- how do agencies work? If an agency gets a new girl how do they make sure that she isnt going to flake on her first job? You say the agency girls are all reliable but they all have to actually start at some point right? So how do the agencies sort the wheat from the chaff?

2- If you found a girl who was not from an agency, you found her on the street or she emailed you off here (or whatever) and you were filming for a website how would you minimise exposure to loss should she flake? Plan to film more content with other, more experienced talent and think of any content the new talent actually does as bonus?
thanks,
-Blair

Answer
Hello Blair,

Agencies are pretty simple in the way they operate. It is quite literally like “shopping” in that you look at what they have available and choose which girls would fit in well with your plan.

Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that a girl will not flake on her first job (or any other job for that matter). However, the “flake rate” is extremely low with agencies girls as compared to girls off the street. Girls who seek out and use agencies tend to be more dedicated to furthering their carreer and more money motivated.

Nearly every girl in this business (experienced or otherwise) has “flaked” on a shoot at one time or another. As with any other job, shit happens. The girls get sick, they have female heath issue, accidents, missed flights, and every other problem that could cause a non-industry people miss work can affect them as well.

The simple fact is that a girl who takes the time to seek out an agent to further her carreer is simply more likely not to let you down on a shoot than the “average Jane” off the street. Even if she is relatively new to the business an agency girl is going to be the better option every time.

Agencies are better for the girls in the fact they only work with reputable producers. Because of this the girls are more likely to get better exposure and safer work environments than they would by trying to find work on their own. Attempting to find work through sites such as craigslist.com, xpeeps.com, backpage.com and similar sites and creates a HUGE risk of them crossing patch with potential predators.
