Question Basically I live in LA so the "only in california thing" is covered... I understand the record keeping requirements to shoot porn and everything... I have two questions.
Is it legal for me to perform in and film POV scenes if I'm the producer? (i.e. I'm the producer, I'm recieving the sex act, I'm holding the camera)Or do I have to hire someone to perform in the scene (male)to remain legal?
It seems to me this has been done alot in gonzo style porn such as peter north's pov series, jules jordan's cum in the face site, frank wank, etc. but I realize that these guys aren't necessarily the "producer"... or maybe they're not the "producer" on the paperwork.
Also Is it legal for me as the producer to be filmed performing in my own scenes? (I know this might be the same question)Can I perform in the film if I'm the producer?
I guess the long and short of it is "Do I really have to pay some guy to fuck girls I paid for?" I'd rather do it myself to cut costs and keep crew numbers down and of coarse other obvisous reasons! I was hoping to create a gonzo / pov style web site that was mostly self produced but I know this is kind of a grey area and may violate california prostitution laws.
How can I pull this off legally? Should I list a business partner (who is not in the film) as the producer? Is that even legal?
You've answered simular questions in the past and I know you don't recommend this route but can you please give us some more specific details?
Answer There are no legal issues that would prevent you from performing in your own productions providing, that your films are legally Produced in California and are in compliance with Federal Law.
However, don't be surprised if you find the female talent pool extremely limited. The old "I'll make my own films so I can bang hot porn chicks" theory is long played out and unless you happen to be a very well known and established producer, most experienced female talent will avoid you altogether. Frankly, they have been down this road before and will just consider you a scam artist when you approach them.
