Question
Hi Dan,

Around how much money should someone expect to spend on necessary legal counsel costs prior to launching an adult website? I've already formed an LLC. So pretty much need to know how much it costs to get help with the DMCA notice, 2257 related stuff, terms and conditions, and anything else you might suggest. Could you provide some insight?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
Lenny,

Legal fees can vary tremendously, depending upon (1) the lawyer you retain, (2) the nature and content of your website, (3) whether you're hiring a website developer, (4) whether you're licensing or producing your content yourself, (5) your jurisdiction, (6) your marketing plans, (7) whether you plan on obtaining copyright and/or trademark protection, and other considerations.

Some lawyers will quote flat fees for certain services, others will not.  Some may pass the work along to less experienced (and cheaper) associates.  Of course, cost is only one factor - how quickly can you get a hold of the attorney, and how fast can they do the work for you?  Someone that is cheap may take weeks or months to do your work.

Your best bet is to contact a few attorneys to ask these questions and get some comfort with them.
