Adult Film - Adult Movie Dvds Copy Rights

Expert: Dan Pepper - 6/21/2009

Question
Hello Dan
I hoping you can educate me a little on the Copy Rights of Adult Movie Dvds. I am assuming the Copy Rights are the same as any other type of Movie.
Lets say one would like to construct a website that allows for clients to view a movie. And they view the movie according how many minutes they have purchased. It would be a Pay Per Minute site. I own all the movies, by law can I allow people to view these movies without breaking the law?
Thank You..

Answer
If you own the movies, or more specifically, own the full copyright to the content, you have the exclusive right to determine how, and in what fashion others can view it.

However if you do NOT own the a film on DVD, and then plan on hosting in a PPV mode, you would be violating the DVD owner's copyright unless you are granted a specific license from that owner to host the DVD.
