Adult Film - over saturated industry

Expert: Dan Pepper - 6/20/2009

Question
I often tell 'buddies' that are looking to make a quick buck to stay the hell away from adult content.  I state it is over saturated and difficult to make money when folks can grab a torrent client these days.  As an attorney, you get paid based on your client's business.  Are you seeing a decrease in revenue in this industry?  My buddies assume because I am in IT that I can set up a site for them (heck no... especially since I do not live in CA).

Answer
There is no question that piracy has hurt the industry, much like it has hurt the music industry.  That being said, the industry still fares better in a down economy than most other businesses, and like other businesses, if you can provide a product or service better than others you can do well.  There is always room for innovation, and I have some client with some very creative business models who are doing well.  I also think there is also extremely strong upside in the mobile market.
