QUESTION: Hey, here is my question, i have been making amateur porn dvd's for over 6 months now, i made decent money,but i only deal with about 5 stores, which is ok, but iam looking to get my movies in other places and make more money. MY question is , how do i get my dvd's distributed by a respectable porn distributor, how do i go about doing this, and what are the up sides to this.? Please help me with this issue. Well, the first thing to do would be to research and get in contact with those distributors.  There are only about a dozen or so that I would consider to be top notch.  There are a bunch of smaller distributors that deal mostly with Fetish or a particular genre.

I will tell you that most of the distributors that we know of only deal with replicated DVD's and not duplicated DVDs.  While we know that DVDr media and players have certainly changed and have come a long way by way of compatibility, there are still a lot of shop owners who refuse to take recorded media simply because of the stigmatism that exists from years ago.

If you get a deal, dont expect that any one distributor will take more than 2-300 units from you.  And, most wont pay you until the units have sold...so be prepared to have to fund about $2K worth of product and hope that it sells.

Also, the margins are very low.  Dont expect that you are going to make much more than $4-6 bucks a DVD -- IF THAT.  Remember, there is a distributor that wants their cut, then the stores themselves want their cut.  So if your DVD sells for $19.95, dont expect much more than $4-6 bucks each.

The upside is that if you do get picked up by distribution, that is your "in" -- and if you produce quality films on a regular basis, and they sell, then you are golden.
