If you wish to direct your series, then what I would suggest is trying to find investors who believe your idea is worth spending time and money on. This way, you still retain creative ownership over your piece. You can also sell the idea to a production company, although the contractual agreement you make with company may or may not including giving up all or some of your rights for a pretty penny.
