Hi Robert,

My question is in relation to marketing demo tapes to top US distributors.

I have already found reliable contacts that would be able to assist with professional production work and recruitment of models for my first hardcore porn project. My plan is to shoot at least 4 professional quality b/g hardcore scenes to start with.

Do you think it would be extremely difficult for a first time director/producer to find top distributors to take interest on his first product release?

In your opinion, what type of porn sub-genre (gonzo, couples, lesbian, solo etc)is currently the most popular and most marketable in North America?

How much budget should I use for my first project in order to produce a film that would generate enough attention from my target market but at the same time still make profit?

Should I try contacting the top distributors and gauge their interest first before spending money on my first film? is the AVN directory a useful tool for contacting people in the industry?

Thank you very much for your question about the adult film industry.  I won't be able to answer all of your questions, but can refer you to some resources where hopefully you will find all the information that you require.

I will respond to your questions in order:

RESPONSE:  I don't think it would be extremely difficult, but you may not find marketing terms that you are happy with, and you may want to seriously consider independent distribution.  However, do contact major producers and distributors and gauge the interest - you might be surprised by a very positive response.

RESPONSE:  In no particular order, and in my personal opinion and based on my experience as an adult webmaster:

POV ("point of view")
Gonzo
Amateur (particularly things like amateur college girls)
Squirting/Female Orgasm
Reality
Natural Tits
