Hey Charles!

I am VERY pleased to meet you and I hope you can be of some help, I know that GAY is not your area of expertise but these are filming producing and directing questions so gender stuff isn't going to change too much on it.

I am starting a gay porn site and we would do all of our own filming and I don't know enough about the porn industry and I am actually having a hard time finding out what I need to know about this to get started. Do you have any insight on what we're doing?

You have the knowledge to help me in so many ways, here are some of my questions, I'll try to be specific.

First, what is the difference between a producer and director?

Where do I find gay porn directors?

How much would I pay a director?  

how long does it take to film a porn movie?

How long does the editing process take?

Where do I find editors or editing companies to do this? do directors edit it?

Start to finish on a movie including casting, set, filming and editing would it take till completion?

what does it usually cost for a whole production?

where do we find camera men?

where would you find the talent to do the porn?

writers for story line?

(For Later) Distribution, like who I would contact if I ever sold the stuff we do in stores or off our website?

What should we pay these people like a break down of what they do? Like the stars and what it is they do, like a jerk off vs a bj and so on all the way up the ladder?

how many people are usually on staff... like staffing on set, lighting etc?

what is the usual equipment required? I know there would be lights and cameras and probably a hotel or nice house, but as far as WHAT to use. any help in that area is appreciated.

How many cameras would be ideal? I have seen it with 2 or one you can always do re-shoots and such.

then overall any idea what could make it different than all those run of the mill porn sites. If you have ideas or anything please feel free to help in any way you can.

Most of those are logistical questions....I only know of the gay market is big in (PARTS OF) NYC, Washington, DC, South Florida, San Francisco and LA. So your best bet is to do some OTJ training even as an intern at a video company....falcon perhaps....since I could answer your questions exactly to the point....but in theory they wouldn’t be right...since everyone version of right is different then another guys....So do some sort of slave position for a gay oriented site/film production company and get your feet wet that way…..websites ARE the hardest thing to make a profit at and be successful…I only know this first hand because I WAS the main character for an adult website….the idea was right…..most any idea will see in porn……but the promotions was the downfall of not only that site but a series of websites……so its nothing you can learn in a course at the local community college….it is something you must learn first hand only in ON THE JOB TRAINING!
