Adult Film - Starting my own BBW Adult magazine

Expert: Charles Taylor - 11/4/2007

Question
Hello Mr.Taylor.
My name is Mario and I'm sending this message to seek your expertise,in regards to Adult magazines.
As you can see for yourself Mr.Taylor(what's written in the subject line),I'm interested in creating my own BBW Adult magazine.
As you already know Mr.Taylor,a BBW Adult magazine is nothing new; However since I have NO experience in The Adult magazine industry(much less The Adult entertainment business),I would like to ask your advice on how to go about starting one.
From what I understand Mr.Taylor,California is the only state where you can LEGALLY produce Adult films.Would that also apply to Adult magazines as well and if not, which states can you LEGALLY produce(and what legal steps I may have to go through)an adult magazine?
Also,I know you and your colleagues usually recommend anyone(who wants to go into adult films....especially men),to go to California.Since most films/companies are based out of California.
In your opinion Mr.Taylor(when it comes to recruiting talent),should I start my magazine in California,or are there cities in The U.S.,where I am more likely to find BBW?
As for costs, how much capital would I need to begin my magazine?
What would be my main overhead expenses?
Also, would be cost effective to be the photographer(or just hire one)? And if so,would you recommend taking some Photography classes?
Would it be wise to use some(or all )of my own money,or getting a business grant/loan would help?
As my mentioned earlier(in regards to recruiting female talent)and with the ealier question, what is the usual pay agreement between the owner and the model?I'm interested in hiring 1st time models for the moment.

Answer
You question breakdown is....Location, Location, Location! Yes the ONLY LEGAL state to shoot "adult content" is California! I cannot stress this enough. As for your logistical questions I really can’t answer them due to my severe lack of knowledge of the niche industry of what you’re looking to venture into....publishing. But alas most magazines have a video and internet unit as well. So I can tell you don’t put all of your eggs into one basket. The big reason that I myself wouldn’t invest in specifically a print venture is that print alone in itself is practically a dead format within adult. Comparisons may be made as to 8 track to cassette or vinyl to CD’s. Good luck on your project.
