Hello Fox, my name is Bob-O and I live in St. Louis MO. I recently filmed an adult film in LA with a few big name porn stars. My backround in film producing has to this point been limited to extreme sport videos. I havent made much effort yet as far as aquiring all the "legal" stuff i need to sell this film that I'm working on. I began this project thinking i may be able to duplicate, market and distribute my own films. the only thing that I've done so far is incorperated my company name and bought my website domain name. Please, any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm not very familiar with the legal advice area, as I've said before. The best advice I can give you is to contact an entertainment lawyer (there aren't too many in St. Louis, but someone has to represent Nelly, Chingy, Marc Bulger, Marchall Faulk and Torry Holt, right?)... and see what they have to tell you. Most lawyers will give you a little free advice (even if their secretary says they won't) if they think you might hire them.
Congratulations on your first porn film. You might (if it's a good film) want to consider contacting Metro Video, Wicked Pictures, Vivid Pictures, Sin City Productions or VCA Platinum (all in Chatsworth, Van Nuys or Canoga Park, CA) and see if they would pay you for the rights to your movie. That is always one option.
www.avn.com has lots of links to inside adult agencies, manufacturers, distributors and the like. I'm not sure about online materials, but there's so much of it out there, that your movie might drown in the sea of online porn.
If you really have big names in your movie, then you should definitely get a decent price AND A PERCENTAGE OF SALES - which is a must - if you contact those companies or others, and see what they say. If you have to send them the product, for god's sake make sure it's copyrighted, and if you really want to be sure it doesn't get ripped off, keep it with you and go back out there to try and sell it in person. Make appointments before you show up at the studios and such.
One more thing: I will never tell a soul - I promise - but which pornstars are in your movie? Only because a lot of them are friends of mine, and I'm always curious as to how you can get them to do "non-mainstream jobs" as it were, ot was it mainstream?

Well Fox, Im not sure how much you are into the black porn but the cast of my film includes... Skyy Black, Diana Devoe, Unique, Carmen Hayes, Jada, Devlin Weed and John E. Depth... I'm into a lot of porn and I know Diana Devoe and Carmen Hayes. I've heard of Skyy Black but never seen her; so I looked her up and she is gorgeous. Next time you talk to her tell her porn expert Fox says she has a fantastic body and a gorgeous face and great tattoos. Also, if Jada is the same Jada that sometimes goes by Jada Fire, then I think she's amazing looking too.
Anyway, how much would those companies pay for a film? Well, there are companies that specialize in black movies but I'm not sure whether you'd get a better price from them or from mainstream. NJ video and Evil Angel and Afrocentric are some of the companies I know that release a lot of all-black videos. I'd still stick with the mainstream ones though, just 'cause they have the most money. Ask around, maybe ask Skyy and she can put you in touch with an actual porn agent out there or something.
How much you'd get: well, I think whatever happens you should try and get a percentage deal. It might be difficult, but then the more they sell, the more you make: if you have confidence in your movie, it's always a good idea. Then again, a lot of studios might just want to buy it off you outright, including all the rights, and if that happens, I have no idea how much they would pay.
From what I know, and your lack of a porn reputation, I would GUESS that it would be between twenty and fifty thousand dollars, but I could be completely wrong. I think you should get more from it, and that's why you should look for a percentage deal, try and get an agent, and whatever you do, shop around, and make sure the companies you're negotiating with know you're shopping around.

I talk to Skyy all the time, matter of fact she just moved to Atlanta a few weeks ago to try to get away from all the crap in LA and maybe get some new stuff started there... we'll see.... but for sure, I will tell her what you said..

Yeah, she's a really really sexy girl. I understand that there's a lot of crap in L.A. and that a lot of people end up hating it, but I still love it out there. I look forward to moving out there.
That's another thing I forgot to mention though: there's a very big black adult video market in Atlanta, Georgia. Not as big as NY or LA, but it's one of the larger ones in North America.
