Question
QUESTION: Hi, I was just curious to know how to get involved in the adult industry.  My girlfriend and I live in New York, and were trying to make some extra money. We are very comfortable with our sexuality, and though we've never done anything like this before...we wanted to try it out.  She enjoys both men and women, whereas I only enjoy females.  Can you help us with this?

ANSWER: Thanks for the question. Are you okay with working with other partners? If so, then your options will be far greater than if you are only interested in doing things together (albeit I understand that you are okay with *adding* people to the mix). But if the male can go his route and the female hers, you will likely have more combined success. The reason is simple-- content producers have more options to work with you depending upon how flexible you are with the types of scenes. Also, your physical shape and appearance always has a lot to do with this. Yes, this is porn, but it is modeling, even though it's nothing like traditional modeling. And as such, it comes with all the things that you might expect with traditional modeling -- people choosing individuals based on how you look, how you act, and more specifically for this kind of modeling, how well-endowed you are - breasts for the female and penis for the male. So, it's much more to it than being comfortable sexually or with other people-- it's also your look, style, and how well you can control yourself (for the male). It's great that the female out of the two of you is open-minded to both men and women. But as for the male, it's going to be very tough to break into the industry only being open to straight scenes and nothing else. There are tons of straight guys looking to do the same, which creates an almost impossible environment, unless there's something that REALLY *physically* stands out about you. There have, in the past, been some very successful couples in the industry, but those are few and far between... and is the exception rather than the rule.
I know there isn't any clear-cut answer here for you, but I encourage you to search around for companies locally, and then perhaps nationally. If you're able to take some very clear revealing digital photos of yourselves individually and as a couple (both kinds, solo and together), then you can submit them to agencies and studios and see what comes up. You never know, but it's worth a shot if you're truly interested. New York definitely has some companies located there... not as many as California of course, but there are some nonetheless. You can also try national web site directory listings like adultstaffing.com or agencies that pull from around the country like fcfagency.com . Good luck to you! And hope this helps! :)

QUESTION: To answer your question, yes we are open to working with other partners.

Thank you for the two links as they should be really helpful, but what I really was hoping for were names of some New York companies or agencies that will help us get started.  We'd like to search companies locally, but we don't even know where to start or how to start looking.  If you could provide possibly a short list of local companies that we could look into in New York City, we would really appreciate it.  Any help in that area would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hey again! After some pretty extensive research, I can't find any adult agencies in NYC, per se, (almost all are CA or FL... http://www.jizzbizzjobs.com/), but I did find plenty of individual opportunities in the NY region... There are several sites where you can check out the most up-to-date listings for these individual opportunities, but please exercise caution when dealing with some of the one-off opportunities-- some of the producers of this content may be very small-time and not necessarily even aware of laws/safety/etc themselves. I am going to list some of these bigger directory sites for you here, it's pretty easy to search for opportunities based on location:
www.adultstaffing.com
www.sexyjobs.com
www.adultjobfinder.net
www.adulthelpwanted.com

Also, although I know you are interested in local opportunities, I still highly encourage you to check out the national opportunities... it's likely that if you are selected by one of the more notable companies, you will be flown in for shoots depending on when they are happening. Here is a great list for you:
http://www.xbiz.com/directory/id=73&pid=13

You can also potentially find some remote (work at home) opportunities like this one: http://www.sexyjobs.com/jobdetails.asp?ID=14330

I hope this helps you to get started with some gigs. As always, use discretion when contacting any listing/company... it definitely pays to make sure you're working with a legitimate company.
