Adult Film/How to save cost on film production
Expert: - 6/7/2007
QuestionHi Robert,
Do you think it would be a good business strategy to consider shooting majority of my adult films outside the U.S., for example Hungary or Romania, to save on production costs and hopefully to increase profits?
Since the porn market is a pretty saturated market, do you think there is a growing trend concerning American Film producers/distributors (like Anabolic, Red light, Zane, etc) to opt to shoot a large percentage of their films outside the U.S. in order to gain incremental cost advantage against their competitors? Or do most American Film producers/distributors still prefer to shoot locally.
Thank you.
Frankie

Thank you very much for your question to AllExperts.com. Although your query falls outside of my area of expertise, I would like to try and provide some information that I think might be relevant/useful, as well as reference to another site where you might find individuals, in the adult film production business, who might be able to help you better.
Unlike "mainstream" films, there is no actors union representing those performing on camera in adult movies, and salaries for performers are not great. As well, there appears to be no lack of willing performers. I would tend to think that performers salaries would be one of the bigger expenses involved with adult films production, as there is far less involved with such productions than there is with "mainstream" films.
Given the cost of travel, accommodation, etc., and other issues including legal, I cannot see that the cost benefits of foreign production would be so great as to warrant any sort of mass "outsourcing" in the adult film business.
At the same time, however, Hungary is an example of a small country with a surprisingly (to many people, I'm sure) large presence in the adult entertainment world, being home to both:

I would like to suggest that you check the forums at

If, after checking those forums, you are still left without clear answers to your questions, please submit a follow-up question here at AllExperts.com and I will see if I can find someone with one of the major companies who might be willing to provide some more information.
