Question My wife and I want to swing softly, but are afraid of STDs (all of them). She practiced sucking on me with a flavored condom, but did not like it. We found a couple and they claim to be free of STDs to include herpes, etc. I guess my question is, should she be concerned about catching a STD by giving oral without a condom and should I be concerned about catching a STD from a girl when receiving oral?
Thanks
Answer Hi, good questions but you already know the answer. The only true safe sex is in a 100% monogamous relationship. If you can't have that then you can have all the participants tested. The test results will only indicate the situation as of the time of the testing.
As you probably know the incidence of catching HIV is extremely low for oral contact. Its slightly higher for a woman performing on a man than a man performing on a woman.
As you have indicated the real concern is HPV (genital warts) and Herpes. Both are STD's caused by a virus which means that once you are exposed and a carrier you can only really control the conditions. For both there is an incubation period between exposure/infection and the point when you show the symptoms. Sometimes there are never any symptoms so someone could be unwittingly spreading or exposing a partner.
The best idea is probably to get to know someone really well and make sure that they are safe before you take the risk--with or without testing results.
