Question
the circumference of the base of a 10metre high conical tent is 44metre calculate the length of the canvas used in making the tent if the width of the canvas is 2 metre

Answer
S = pi * r * s
s = sqrt(r^2 + h^2)
C = 2pi * r

44 = 2pi * r
22/pi = r

h = 10

s = sqrt((22/pi)^2 + 10^2)
s = sqrt((484/pi^2) + 100)
s = sqrt((484 + 100pi^2)/pi^2)
s = sqrt((4/pi^2)(121 + 25pi^2))
s = (2/pi)sqrt(121 + 25pi^2)

S = pi * (22/pi) * (2/pi)sqrt(121 + 25pi^2)
S = (44/pi)sqrt(121 + 25pi^2)
S = about 268.579

i'm guessing the length of the canvas is 134.29m, which is what you get when you divide the surface area by 2.
