Question:  Convert the polar equation to rectangular form

r square= sin2x

r= 3cos2x
.............................
Hi, Thanh,

Use:

x^2 + y^2 = r^2

Now are you sure you meant to write:  r^2 = sin (2x), not  sin(2 theta)?

If  r^2= sin2x, then

x^2 = y^2 = sin(2x), and it is in rectangular form.

If  r= 3cos2x, then

sqrt(x^2 + y^2) = 3 cos (2x)

is in rectangular form.

Please proofread and check your question, AND read the instructions.

Expertise

I can answer questions in basic to advanced algebra (theory of equations, complex numbers), precalculus (functions, graphs, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions and identities), basic probability, and finite mathematics, including mathematical induction. I can also try (but not guarantee) to answer questions on Abstract Algebra -- groups, rings, etc. and Analysis -- sequences, limits, continuity. I won't understand specialized engineering or business jargon.

Experience

I taught at a two-year college for 25 years, including all subjects from algebra to third-semester calculus.
