Question
The Mayberry's circular table has an area of 1256 square inches. The table opens in the middle to allow additional boards(leaves) to be added. Each board is 12 inches wide, fits across the diameter of the table, and is rectangular in shape.

How many leaves must be added to increase the area to 2696 square inches? (Let n=3.14)

Answer
2696 - 1256 = 1440

Ac = pi * r^2
1256 = pi * r^2
(1256/pi) = r^2
r = sqrt(1256/pi)

diameter = 2sqrt(1256/pi)

Ar = lw
1440 = 2sqrt(1256/pi) * w

1440/(2sqrt(1256/pi)) = about 36 inches

if each board is 12 inches wide

36/12 = 3

ANS : 3 boards is what i get.
