Question
Hi there.  Write the following expression as a single logarithm.  If you could show me the steps that would be great too.  Thanks!
(1/2)log(base8)(x+5)-(3)log(base8)y

Answer
I'll give you two hints:

The number in front of log can be placed behind the log sign as the power of the expression after log

e.g. 5log(base10)7 = log(base10) 7^5

If two logs are of the same base, and you can combine them into ONE log
of the same base with their expressions multiplied (if you were to add two logs) or divided (if you were to subtract one from another)

e.g. log 5 + log 7 = log (5*7)
    log 5 - log 7 = log (5/7)

Hope this helps
