Question
A train 1000m long travels through a 3km tunnel. If 30 seconds elaspe from the time the last carriage enters the tunnel until the engine emerges from the other end, find the speed of the train in km/h

Answer
1000m = 1km

S = 3/(30/3600)
S = 3/(1/120)
S = 360km/h

that was what i got. you can also check with answers.yahoo.com

in our case, since time elapses since the end of the train until the engine emerges instead of the other way around, i don't think the length of the train really matters.
