About Paul Klarreich
Expertise
I can answer questions in basic to advanced algebra (theory of equations, complex numbers), precalculus (functions, graphs, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions and identities), basic probability, and finite mathematics, including mathematical induction. I can also try (but not guarantee) to answer questions on Abstract Algebra -- groups, rings, etc. and Analysis -- sequences, limits, continuity. I won't understand specialized engineering or business jargon.

Experience
I taught at a two-year college for 25 years, including all subjects from algebra to third-semester calculus.

Hi, Grace,

First:

when you send me a question to answer do you like it if i answer you like this without any punctuation or capitalization and with nonsense abbreviations and making it hard to understand?

try setting up an excel spreadsheet like this as in example e
cell 1 30 the secs cell 2  23 the mins cell 3  79 the dgs
cell 4  c3 + c2/60 + c1/3600 cell 5  =sin(cell 4) that shd give you the ans do the same for the others.

Or do you prefer getting the answer like this:

Try setting up an Excel spreadsheet like this: (as in example e)

e.sin 79°23'30".18456

Cell 1:  30 [the Seconds]
Cell 2:  23 [the minutes]
Cell 3:  79 [the degrees]
Cell 4:  C3 + C2/60 + C1/3600
Cell 5:  =SIN(Cell 4)

That should give you the answer.

Do the same for the others.  Naturally, if no seconds are specified, put a zero.  This one example should suffice.

.......................

If you prefer the second way, then send your question that way.  Pretend you are sending the question to the admisssions officer at the college you want to attend, so he can see the kind of writing you do.

Have you done anything about that awful math book you are using?
