Question
How do I solve for a power?  Here's the example:
2.0544 = 1.04n  (that's 1.04 to the nth)The answer is apparently 18.36, but how can I do that math without using a fancy calculator?

Answer
first of all you have to know how to write it before you can solve it, lol.

2.0544 = 1.04^n

majority of the time you can just use inverse of operations, but not in this case.

if you ln both sides, you get

ln(2.0544) = ln(1.04^n)

or

n * ln(1.04) = ln(2.0544)
n = ln(2.0544)/ln(1.04)

if you use a calculator, you get

n = about 18.36
