Question
please explain how to do these 2 probelems

(1) (2x + 5) 1/2 power = 4  ( book says answer is 11/2)

(2) (2x+2) 2/3 power =6    ( not sure of this answer)

Answer
if by this you mean

1.)
(2x + 5)^(1/2) = 4
2x + 5 = 4^2
2x + 5 = 16
2x = 11
x = 11/2

----------------------------

2.)
(2x + 2)^(2/3) = 6
2x + 2 = 6^(3/2)
2x + 2 = 2^(3/2) * 3^(3/2)
2(x + 1) = 2^(3/2) * (3^(3/2))
x + 1 = (2^(3/2) / 2^1) * 3^(3/2)
x = 2^((3/2) - 1) * 3^(3/2) - 1
x = 2^((3/2) - (2/2)) * 3^(3/2) - 1
x = 2^(1/2) * 3^(3/2) - 1
x = 2^(1/2) * (3^(1/2))^3 - 1
x = about 6.3485, or another way to put this is -1 + 3sqrt(6)

www.quickmath.com will solve these for you, but it won't show you the work, only the answer.
