Question
simplify: (9-x^-2)/3+x^-1)

Answer
if by this you mean

(9 - x^-2)/(3 + x^-1) and those are suppose to be negative exponents

(9 - (1/x^2))/(3 + (1/x))

((9x^2 - 1)/(x^2)) / ((3x + 1)/x)

((9x^2 - 1)/(x^2)) * (x/(3x + 1))

(x(9x^2 - 1))/((x^2)(3x + 1))

(x(3x - 1)(3x + 1))/((x^2)(3x + 1))

(3x - 1)/x

ANS : (3x - 1)/x or 3 - x^-1

www.quickmath.com will also simplify your problem into what i have.
