Question
2 eggs,toast, bacon, milk  2.75
1 egg, toast, bacon, milk  2.20
toast, milk  .90
1 egg ,toast .95

what is the cost of each item?

Answer
Hi Francine,

Okay, let's write this out with variables:

 2e + t + b + m = 2.75

  e + t + b + m = 2.20  -----> so then 1 egg must = 0.55

  t + m =0.90

  e + t = 0.95  --> but since e = .55, then t = .40

Then if t + m = .90 and t = .40, m = .50

Finally, if e + t + b + m = 2.20  , then

          .55 + .40 + b + .50 = 2.20

                      b + 1.45 = 2.20   so b = .75

Hope this was clear enough.
