Question
Hello,

I am trying to make a calculation and I am not sure I am doing it correctly.  I want to find out 30% of 160 so I did the following: .30 x 160 and I get 48.

Then I want to find out 230% of 200 and I get 460 (I multiplied 2.30 x 200).  Something seems wrong.

I am trying to determine how much I will earn at the rate of 30% and at the rate of 230%.  I only want the amount that I will earn or profit.  I want the profit separated from the principal investment, in the case of $200 if I earn $15 then I just want the calculation to show $15, not $215.

Or if you cannot do that, then I want to know that the calculation result includes the principal $200 because I am not sure.

My name should be CONFUSED (smile)

I hope that I am being clear.  Thank you

Answer
here is how you find out your answers.

V = n(p/100)

V = Value
n = number
p = percent value

you my already know this, but of means times in math

.30 * 160 = 48, correct

230% * 200 = 460, correct
it just means double the amount + .3 of the amount.

if your talking about hourly and overtime, then

.30x + 2.3y = Total

if you get taxed, then just take each value and subtract the tax percentage from it.
