Question
At a certain university, 40% of the students who take basic statistics are sophomores, 45% are juniors, and 15% are seniors. From the registrar, we find that 20% of the sophomores get As. Out of the juniors, 30% get As and a whopping 40% of seniors get As. Given that a student got an A in statistics, what is the probability that he or she is a senior?

Answer
so you have .40x, .45x, and .15x

.20(.40)x or .08x
.30(.45)x or .135x
.40(.20)x or .08x

(.08x)/(.08x + .135x + .08x) = .08x/.295x or 27.12%

i'm not 100% sure since i'm not good at probabilities involving percentanges, so i'd recommend going to answers.yahoo.com seeing what they say, before you rate me.
