Question
In a certain colony of bacteria each divides in to two every hour. how will be produced from a single baccilus if the rate of division continuous for 12 hours?

Answer
y = 2^n

y = 2^12

y = 4096

and i think you mean splits into 2, because if it divided, it would first have to be one big one, then you'd have a bunch of little small ones.

also depending on how many bacteria there are within the colony, then the formula would be

y = a * 2^x
