Question
Over what interval of x is the function, y=0.3x^4-2x^2+0.5-4 increasing? Write in interval notation.
What is it's range? State in set-builder notation.

I must have missed this day in class. My teacher says I can do it with a calculator, but I don't even know the first thing to do.

Answer
Hi Patty,
The 0's in your equation are confusing. Could you restate clearly and send again?
Anyway, a function is increasing when its derivative is positive. So all you need do is find the derivative and determine the interval on which it is positive.
