Question
i need this question solved:

A lighthouse in Delaware Bay is known to be 120 feet tall. You use your sextant to measure the angle of elevation to the top of the lighthouse to be 10 degrees. How far from the lighthouse are you(to the nearest tenth)?

Answer
tan(10) = 120/x

x = 120/tan(10)

x = 680.6ft from the light house.

you have to picture the triangle in your head.

the light house is opposite to the angle you are measuring, and you need to know how far away you are from the light house, so thats gives you

tan(A) = opposite/adjacent
