7/2x + 1/2x = 3x + 10/2 + 7/2x

Answer
Question: 7/2x + 1/2x = 3x + 10/2 + 7/2x

Is the problem suppose to be 7x/2 + x/2 = 3x + 10/2 + 7x/2?
I've gotten us to several questions having 7/2x meaning 7/(2x),
but I don't feel that this one reads that way.  Just for fun,
I'll do it that way

Let’s put all terms over 2 by multiplying those not over 2 by 2/2.

This gives 7x/2 + x/2 = 6x/2 + 10/2 + 7x/2.

The entire equation can now be multiplied by 2.  The result is
7x + x  = 6 + 10 + 7x.

Note that 7x on both sides can be cancelled, leaving only x = 6x + 10.

Subtract 6x from both sides and the result is –5x = 10.

Divide both sides by –5 and the result is x = -2.

To check this out, put it back in the equation at top, giving
(7/2)(-2) + (1/2)(-2) = 3(-2) + 10/2 + (7/2)(-2).

This reduces to –7 –1 = -6 + 5 – 7, which is –8 = –8.

That looks like it to me...

Now just for fun, let's suppose that x were on the bottom of the fractions.  We would start by multiplying the entire equation by 2x.
That would give 7 + 1 = 6x² + 10x + 7.

Subtracting  8 from both sides would give 0 = 6x² + 10x - 1.
Now if that were the case (but I don't think it is),
you would get an expression for x involving √124 = 2√31,
but usually basic math has very simple answers.
The exact answer would be (-10 ± 2√31)/12 = (-5 ± √31)/6.

Publications
My master's paper was published in the OSU journal. The subject of it was Numerical Analysis used in shock waves and rarefaction fans. It dealt with discontinuities that arose over time. They were solved using the Leap Frog method. That method was used and improvements of it were shown. The improvements were by Enquist-Osher, Godunov, and Lax-Wendroff.

Education/Credentials
Master of Science at OSU with high honors in mathematics. Bachelor of Science at OSU with high honors in mathematical sciences. This degree involved mathematics, statistics, and computer science. I also took sophmore level physics and chemistry while I was attending college. On the side I took raquetball, but that's still not relevant.

Awards and Honors
I earned high honors in both my BS degree and MS degree from Oregon State. I was in near the top in most of my classes. In several classes in mathematics, I was first. In a class of over 100 students, I was always one of the first ones to complete the test. I graduated with well over 50 credits in upper division mathematics.
