Question
Explain how you would find the coordinates of a point 7/8 of the way from point A to point B.

Answer
If AB is (x1,y1) and (x2,y2), then

AB = sqrt((x2 - x1)^2 + (y2 - y1)^2)

now you say either 7/8 of that distance, which gives you

A to (x3,y3)

(7/8)AB = sqrt((x3 - x1)^2 + (y3 - y1)^2)

or you can say 1/8 of the distance

(x3,y3) to B

(1/8)AB = sqrt((x3 - x2)^2 + (y3 - y2)^2)

if i had A and B then i could help you more.

to check your answer

Distance of A to (x3,y3) + Distance of (x3,y3) to B = Distance of A to B

Another possible way of doing this is

Midpoint of AB, which gives you 4/8, then find the midpoint of those 2 coordinates, which gives you 6/8 of AB, then find the midpoint of those coordinates, and this should give you the coordinates to the point that is 7/8 from A to B.
