Question
Hello there,

My question is:
A positive integer n is such that numbers 2n+1 and 3n+1 are perfect squares. Prove that n is divisible by 8.

I would appreciate any help given.
Thankyou.

Answer
2n + 1 = x^2
3n + 1 = y^2

2(8) + 1 = 17
2(16) + 1 = 33
2(24) + 1 = 49
2(32) + 1 = 65
2(40) + 1 = 81

3(24) + 1 = 73
3(40) + 1 = 121

using trial and error

n = 40

answers.yahoo.com can probably answer this without needing to use trial and error.
