Question: the third and fourth terms of a sequence are 101 and 83. If the first diffrences are constant, find the first 5 terms of the sequence.
............................................................
It looks as if the common difference is -18. (yes, it can be negative)

So if

a3 = 101
and
a4 = 83 = 101 - 18
then
a5 = 83 - 18
and
a2 = 101 PLUS 18
a1 = 101 PLUS 18 PLUS 18

You can finish up.

Expertise

I can answer questions in basic to advanced algebra (theory of equations, complex numbers), precalculus (functions, graphs, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions and identities), basic probability, and finite mathematics, including mathematical induction. I can also try (but not guarantee) to answer questions on Abstract Algebra -- groups, rings, etc. and Analysis -- sequences, limits, continuity. I won't understand specialized engineering or business jargon.

Experience

I taught at a two-year college for 25 years, including all subjects from algebra to third-semester calculus.
