Subject: this question has me stumped
Question: Which statement is false?
 a ∈  {a, b, c}
 Ø ⊂ {a, b, c}
 Ø ⊆ {a, b, c}
 Ø ∈ {a, b, c}
..........................................
Here is how to get 'unstumped':  Write each sentence out in full English words, no symbols, such as:

 a ∈  {a, b, c}
"The object a is a member of the set containing the objects a,b, and c."

 Ø ⊂ {a, b, c}

"The empty set is a proper subset of the set containing the objects a,b, and c."

etc.

Try that.  Send me the results and let me know if you are still stumped.

Expertise

I can answer questions in basic to advanced algebra (theory of equations, complex numbers), precalculus (functions, graphs, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions and identities), basic probability, and finite mathematics, including mathematical induction. I can also try (but not guarantee) to answer questions on Abstract Algebra -- groups, rings, etc. and Analysis -- sequences, limits, continuity. I won't understand specialized engineering or business jargon.

Experience

I taught at a two-year college for 25 years, including all subjects from algebra to third-semester calculus.
